Most real world festivals take months of planning – we had 11 weeks to deliver Secondfest. Rivers Run Red, an ‘in world’ creative agency, were engaged to build the festival island to our specifications and we embarked on an amazing adventure of technical, legal and logistical discovery into Second Life.
Once in Second Life and with a personal avatar created, Secondfest visitors passed through the entrance turnstiles, clicking to pick up wristbands, and walked down the steps under rotating Intel and Guardian branding.
5 stages offered exclusive live video performances from a diverse range of acts – Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada, New Young Pony Club, Guilty Pleasures, Rob da Bank, and many more. We created bespoke avatars for all the DJs, who cued up tracks and mixed their audio in front of the crowd.
Second Life bands were invited to play on the Chill Island stage and streamed their live audio performances onto stage from all over the world - DJ Jenns in Scotland, Doubletown Tandino in America, Clayton in Ireland. Each performer controlled their avatar on stage to interact with the audience.
The Lake Cinema and Treehouse film room screened a series of short films and exclusive trailers for the new Transformers feature film.
A roller skating track, secret beach party, skywriting plane, moving maze, dressing up boxes, posters that gave your avatar great dance moves by clicking, audio deck chairs, welcome tea party, teleporting deer and even a press media centre were some of the many activities festival goers enjoyed.
